I come across all these voodoo ways of getting the JE510 into test mode, I thought I'd try to figure out if the Kenwood 1050MD could be put into test mode too. Found it on my very first try.

1. Turn the unit off with the power button.
2. Press and hold the Play button.
3. Turn the unit on with the power button.
4. After a brief delay, release the Play button.
