The BMW Business MD53 was released for BMW's E46 platform in March of 2001 as an optional extra for ¥5780. It launched as part of the New Generation (NG) Radio line that began in June of 2000. Uses the 17-pin 'Round Pin' harness compatible with all E46 models prior February 2003; and can thus be retrofitted to models since the release of the E46 platform in 1998. It was most common in Japan and in Europe, with limited releases elsewhere. By 2003, it began disappearing from brochures and became slowly unavailable as an optional extra. Like other official head units from BMW, it accepts an input from the BMW 6-CD Changer; as well as a 3.5mm AUX input.
