MJ-17D - Urushi design with side wood panels over the MJ-D707. Has a label of Pioneer "Elite" series.
Identical to MJ-D707, rebadged as D7 for US import.
Pioneer ASRAC is in use only for analog signal record, it's a pre-equuilizing correction before passing the audio signal to standard Sharp 5 Atrac encoder. Digital recording uses pure standard Sharp 5 Atrac.
