Repair

The exterior is all plastic. The bottom plate is translucent, which makes the player look like iMac G3. However, despite the translucent back, the internals (circuit board and optical pickup) are hidden behind reflective film placed between the back plate and the circuit board. That reflective film can be removed without affecting the functionality of the device. This changes the aesthetics of the player quite a bit as you can see electronics and moving parts inside the player as it plays disks :-P — image unavailable in this snapshot

Despite all plastic exterior, the optical pickup mechanism is solidly built on a metal plate. And it is very quiet too! There are two flex cables that connect the pickup mechanism with the circuit board.
